In order to provide the best care to their students, teachers are often required to sacrifice their own mental and physical well-being throughout the school year. While many would consider this admirable, the truth is it’s actually taking a toll on teachers worldwide. Which is evident throughout the massive amounts of teacher burnout and empty positions in the industry. While it’s true that there will always be a great deal of effort required from any teacher in order to be the best they can be, it shouldn’t also come at the cost of burnout. Parents, school officials and even students understand how important teachers and what they contribute are, but many of them remain underfunded and thus unprepared for the school year ahead of them. Without the support of the schools that employ them, teachers are left to handle these feelings of being overwhelmed and stressed on their own. This is known as self-care. With the right self-care methods, teachers can attempt to mitigate this stress and continue to operate at the level their students need.
